Personally, I'd suggest the #3 subway or even the D since either are better than
he A during the weekend.

lso available are the awesome Popeye's Fried Chicken near Pathmark or a
amaican food place on Frederick Douglass near 146th St. Charles' Southern
itchen is also only a few blocks away :)
Have fun y'all!
Peggy

> - subway (3 train to 148th St. or A/B/C/D trains to 145th St.)
Note: A and D are the best trains up there from midtown. 15 minutes.
> - car (FDR/Harlem River Dr. to Northbound Exit 21-135th St. / Southbound
Exit 22-142nd St.) with garage parking 3 blocks away (behind Pathmark).
Adjustment/Correction: The best exit from the FDR/Harlem River Dr is actually
55th st/8th Ave. When you get off the highway make a left right onto 8th Ave
Frederick Douglass Blvd) (Note: unlikely but if coming from Bronx/even upper
anhattan thus southbound FDR I think it leaves you right on 8th ave), and drive
own to 148th st (landmark on corner is huge police station), and make a left
building takes up corner to middle of the block). With that exit you'll be at
he building in at most 2 lights once off the highway and its a much easier and
ore straightforward trip.
If coming from the west side you can take the west side, em, highway up to 155th
t. When you get off make a right on Broadway (southbound), drive down to 145th
t (a must as a park cuts off anything immediately to the north of that street),
rive down to 8th Ave (Frederick Douglass Blvd), make a left, drive down to
48th st, and make a right.
The garage behind Pathmark, but in the same building, is very small and pretty
uch packed; they have a waiting list for a monthly spot. The one across the
treet from that might be better and there are several other garages in the
rea; including some closer to the building; even one across the street (if
till open, don't remember if construction shut that one down). The street
arking immediately around the building is very, very hard (especially due to
onstruction across the street) however its not impossible and it is much better
loser to the Pathmark. For garages the ones in the gentrified areas of
145th-~150th street tend to be more expensive and probably more packed. If you
re willing to walk there are a few cheaper ones if you go a bit further into
he ghetto (note used for descriptive purposes, no evil intent here);
153rd-~155th street has at least 2 cheap lots right off of 8th ave (Frederick
ouglass Blvd).
> Feel free to cook if you'd like, or consider asking your favorite
neighborhood restaurant if they can prepare a tray of appetizers or a
dinner dish - dumplings, fried rice, chicken wings, noodles/pasta, salad,
Note the Pathmark also probably sells some cooked food and there is a Chinese
esturant on the ground floor of the building, and some other stuff in the
eighborhood, if you want to get stuff locally.
> Drinks: Hard liquor is prohibited by the building, but if we're discreet,
we can bring wine, beer, or punch for some holiday cheer.
Drinks: Hard liquor is prohibited by the building, but if you're discreet and
ince we do not really have any realistic capability to stop you, you can sneak
n wine, beer, or punch for some holiday cheer without our knowledge or consent;
mplied or otherwise. Metro accepts no liability for alcoholic beverages
rought in or used by another party. Any party sneaking in alcohol will have
ull liability for their actions and any consequences that may arise from the
resence of their alcoholic beverages at the Metro event. Be forewarn that any
lcohol served to minors may bestow liability upon any person whom does such
ction, views such action and does not report/stop it, or hears of such action
nd does not report/stop it.
There fixed it up a bit for you. ^_^

ubject: [MA-SOC] Metro Anime Holiday Party - Sunday, Dec. 13, 3-8pm

 Quick Details:
What: Third, not-so-Annual, Metro Anime Holiday Party
 When: Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, 3-8pm
Where: 239 W 148th Street, New York, NY, between 7th Ave (Adam Clayton
Powell Jr. Blvd) & 8th Ave (Frederick Douglass Blvd) - The Washington
building, basement community room (there's a video intercom for the room at
the street entrance - just buzz for entry).
How much: There's a $5 charge to cover the room fee

 Transportation:
 - subway (3 train to 148th St. or A/B/C/D trains to 145th St.)
 - bus (M1, M2 buses to 148th St. & 7th Ave, Bx19 bus to 145th St. & 7th Ave)
 - car (FDR/Harlem River Dr. to Northbound Exit 21-135th St. / Southbound
Exit 22-142nd St.) with garage parking 3 blocks away (behind Pathmark).

 Food: Potluck!
 There's a big 24hr Pathmark supermarket 3 blocks away (145th St. & 8th Ave
 - en route from most transport options), and the space has a full-size
refrigerator & microwave, so we can keep food hot/cold. Dan & I will arrive
early and bring the paper goods (cups/plates/utensils), but we need folks
to bring chips, snacks, drinks, finger foods, desserts, and dinner-foods.

Feel free to cook if you'd like, or consider asking your favorite
neighborhood restaurant if they can prepare a tray of appetizers or a
dinner dish - dumplings, fried rice, chicken wings, noodles/pasta, salad,
ethnic foods of all kinds - anything that you feel comfortable
transporting, and that won't spoil en route. You can ask for ideas on-list,
but let me know what you're bringing ahead-of-time, so I can make sure the
 basics are covered.

Drinks: Hard liquor is prohibited by the building, but if we're discreet,
we can bring wine, beer, or punch for some holiday cheer.

Entertainment: Bring your anime, holiday, and party MP3s & CDs! Bring your
Wii party games! We're in the basement under the lobby, so we can crank up
the tunes and rev up the Wii to get our anime groove on. If folks
bring-your-own karaoke CD/MP3 tracks or OP/ED videos, we can coordinate an
 anime/J-music sing-off.

 ----------------------

We'll be having our party in the nicely-appointed community room of a
renovated Harlem co-op, thanks to the generous assistance of Peggy, one of
our long-time members. If this is your first venture to Harlem, the
neighborhood is quite safe and well-trafficked on a Sunday
afternoon/evening, and the building is down the block from a police
precinct house (which takes up much of the street parking, btw).

If you need detailed directions, or would like a travel buddy, ask away.
Feel free to bring along a friend or relative to join the festivities.
These get-togethers are always a good chance to see Metro members past &
present and put faces to names (or names to faces), and a good time is
generally had by all. Any questions, feel free to ask on-list or off.

 Ciao,
 Mandisa
