Subj:	[MA-SOC] Final Details For *The Incredibles*

  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello Everyone:
	The Metro Anime excursion to view *The Incredibles*
shall be for the 8:15 PM screening, at Loews 42nd Street E-Walk,
on November 8 Monday.  Loews 42nd Street E-Walk is located at
247 West 42nd Street, between Seventh and Eighth Avenues, in
Manhattan.
	The excursion shall gather and meet inside the lobby of
Loews 42nd Street E-Walk, at around 7:35 PM, on November 8
Monday.  If possible, the excursion shall make its way to the
theatre auditorium, at around 7:50 PM, to find seating.
	Individuals are each responsible for arranging,
purchasing and obtaining their own admission tickets, for the
8:15 PM screening of *The Incredibles*, on November 8 Monday, at
Loews 42nd Street E-Walk.  It is perhaps advisable that
admission tickets be purchased in advance.
	To possibly, locate and recognize me, I shall likely be
a male of Asian descent, with short dark hair and a moustache,
and probably wearing eyeglasses and a necktie.
	Most sentient beings are invited and welcome to join.
				Sincerely,
	Performance, "The Opening Of Japan: Pacific Overtures At
	The Roundabout Theatre, An Evening Of Discussion,
	Audio/Visual Presentation, And Live Performance".
	This extraordinary evening celebrating the Broadway
    revival of Stephen Sondheim’s 1976 musical masterpiece,
    *Pacific Overtures* will feature a live performance segment
    sides of this historic encounter, based on his and MIT’s
    "Black Ships And Samurai" exhibition and web site.  Parts of
   Hey --
   Today, I got a strange email claiming to be from Metro Anime, and it says
that the mailing list is being switch from majordomo to something called
mailman. There are several links to click for information (needless to say,
I didn't click on any of them), and even gives me a new password to the
list. I don't recall ever needing a password for Metro at all.
   What is this? It's not signed by anybody in charge of the list, nor were
there any announcements on either the MA list or on the MA site. It's
probably just a virus. So, has anybody else gotten this email?
   :-),
   Danielle
I did too, but I don't think it's a virus.  I followed the link to the
website, and there are indeed archives for the list there (and you don't need a
password to access them).  I think our webmaster is just switching to a new host.
Oh nooooooooooo..I think you may be right as I just got my test mail and
it looks legit......and now I deleted the one that tells me all about it...
ok well that's enough for me today, have to get going but arghhhhhhhhhhh....
who are our hosts here by the way.....since this egroup doesn't have a
webpage one can go to as in archives and such like yahoo...I just
thought less confusion if I know who are the hosts who run the elist??
is it Ralph and Smokey and or others??
That was me, your kindly list administrator.  In fact this was totally
legit.  I have switched to a new server and a new mail processing
system, and this was the official announcement of same.  It has been
under testing for some time and the -workers list has already been
switched over.
The password stuff is not necessary.  You *can* use it, but if you do
not (e.g when unsubscribing), it will just send you email verifying
that you indeed wanted to perform whatever action you asked to do.
The email suggested that it would be sent monthly, but I believe I
have it configured to NOT annoy you with said emails.
There might be some duplicate emails as people use both the new and
old addresses and while certain DNS changes propagate out onto the
net.  Hopefully these will all go away with a day or two.
Please feel free to contact me if you experience any difficulties or
have any concerns.
Years and years ago, a former president (back when we HAD presidents, =
before becoming the anarchy we are today) of Metro Anime arranged to =
create a set of Metro Anime cloissonne pins, which he sold to the =
members for around thirty bucks a pop.  To the best of my knowledge, =
that was the first, last and only time Metro has ever engaged in the =
much-honored practice of merchandising.
It has been suggested again, and I'm considering arranging for it to =
happen.  I'd like to know if anybody is, in fact, interested in getting =
some kind of 'official' cloissonne pin, T-Shirt, coffee mug, or other =
object with advertising for Metro Anime on it.
Would anybody be interested in buying, say, a Metro Anime T-Shirt for =
about $15-20?  Or a metal pin for somewhere in the $20-40 range?  Or =
something else?  I'm open to suggestions.
My own Metro cloissonne pin is actually one of my most treasured =
sentimental possessions; Metro Anime has been something of a second =
family to me in the ten years I've lived in New York. Since 2005 is =
going to mark our ten-year anniversary (counting from the meetings at =
the School of Visual Arts; Metro met less formally as early as 1994), I =
thought it might be cool to make something tangible to commemorate the =
occasion.
My thought is, if I were to do such a thing and it actually made a =
profit, I would dedicate the same to help pay for a big anniversary =
party in 2005.  However, I would rather hear if people would actually =
want such memorabilia for themselves rather than as a fund-raising =
donation.
Does anybody have any comments on this idea?
Well for me i am very conscious of the design.  If it looks good and
the money is going for something good, I'll buy it.  So for me it comes
down to it just being cool.
Fantastic idea!  T-shirts, sweatshirts, mugs, and/or baseball caps with a
newly designed logo ("Metro Anime 10th Anniversary 1995-2005" and some cool
grafix) would be super, and if you'd like to make a profit we might be able to open
The price you proposed sounds pretty reasonable for a spiffy, durable pin that
And using any profits for a big anniversary bash would be GREAT!  So, count
Pins sound real cool maybe a jacket as well or a t-shirt. I would love a commerative pin.
I feel the same way about you guys, even though I'm a comparatively new
Since 2005 is going to mark our ten-year anniversary (counting from the
meetings at the School of Visual Arts; Metro met less formally as early as 1994), I
thought it might be cool to make something tangible to commemorate the
occasion.
Fantastic idea! T-shirts, sweatshirts, mugs, and/or baseball caps with a
newly designed logo ("Metro Anime 10th Anniversary 1995-2005" and some cool
grafix) would be super, and if you'd like to make a profit we might be able to open
an online store on the Cafe Press site
http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/
which is specifically for that sort of creative promotional merchandise.
My thought is, if I were to do such a thing and it actually made a profit, I
would dedicate the same to help pay for a big anniversary party in 2005.
However, I would rather hear if people would actually want such memorabilia for
themselves rather than as a fund-raising donation.
IMHO we could get the best of both worlds by merchandising the shirts, mugs,
and caps on the Cafe Press site to the public for profit, while having a new
set of cloisonne pins with the anniversary logo made specially for ourselves.
The price you proposed sounds pretty reasonable for a spiffy, durable pin that
we could wear to meetings, film events, cons, etc.
And using any profits for a big anniversary bash would be GREAT! So, count
me in.
Peace and Pocky,
The Jillster
ok people. I think there is a chance we can get the pins made cheaper than cafepress. we need an image to use first. let's all work together to come up with an image then we can shop around.
I think a totally original mascot would be the way to go, since we might run
into copyright infringement problems if we used a pre-existing character.  And
there are so many talented manga/anime artists in MA, I'm sure y'all can make
our collective ideas come to life on paper.
The King Kong idea IS great.  Or, how about a bishie samurai slicing open a
Big Apple with "Metro Anime 10th Anniversary" printed across the inside halves?
Just my 2 yen,
Burukurin no Jiru
I mean the samurai idea is cool but I think we should have TWO mascots. a boy and a girl. maaybe throw in a robot. NOT a mech bot a droid. maybe i have been watching atomic betty too much or milk chan
Thanks Big Daddy Rob for stepping to the plate on that one. I think we should all get together and come up with character ideas and bring them to the next sunday lunch. I also think it would be cool to have a logo and/or trademark.   I have an idea (I have seem to be having alot of them lately haven't I?) A CONTEST sponsored by ME!  What is it? here it goes. 3 boxes of pocky to the person that can come up with the concept for the M.A Girl, 3 boxes of pocky to the person that can come up with the concept of the M.A. guy, 3 boxes of pocky  to the perrson who can come up with the concept of the M.A  droid, 3 boxes of pocky to the person who can come up with our slogan/catchphrase. To win you must recieve the most votes at the next M.A. anime screening. Deadline is 1/7/05 and all sketches be they on disk or paper must be in by that day. I will see if I can think of an address to have the sketches that can't be scanned mailed to. Since Robert volunteered he is getting four (4) quattro
 boxes of pocky I can't remember the name of the person who came up with the pin idea but they also get four (4) quattro boxes of pocky. Pocky will be presented at the and of the screening. Yes I will have them.
Hi Ralph,
Great idea! A pin might be the best option - they're "cool" and you don't
have to worry about having 5,000 extra "medium" t-shirts and no XL t-shirts
left over (or other irritating size-related problems like that). Jackets are
more of a specialty item, and thus might not sell as well.. although I think
that if they're designed as super-scary Japanese highschool gang trenchcoats
a la Touru's mom in Fruits Basket, i'd definitely buy one ;)
But yeah - design is pretty important. I don't think you'd have trouble
selling them if they were really hip looking!
Zoe
So when you do come up with some pin designs, I can provide some very
cheap 1-inch circular pins, (sometimes known as punk rock pins - or
buttons).  I know Ralph wants to make $15 cloissonne (cloisonn?) pins with
the nice enamel and such, but I can make an infinate number of cheaper
pins of however many different designs we like, for just 25 cents each.
So if there are alternate designs or designs that don't win the contest
necessarily, I can make those into mega-affordable,
practicly-giving-them-away priced pins.  I guess that goes for other anime
clubs in the area that might be reading this, too.
How can I bring in such prices you ask?  I have a friend with a button
machine, that's how.
