.What do you think would be good ways to keep badges authentic?

The thing Yaoi-Con does is have numbered tamper-evident wristbands
with corresponding numbers on the badges, and you can't get into
controlled areas of the convention without both. Badges and wristbands
are checked at key choke-points in the facility.
Due to the nature of their content they were early to adopt this
strict security measure, but it may be time for other conventions with
concerns about ghosting to try something similar.

This still leaves public lobbies open to the extent that people can't
be expelled unless they are creating a legitimate nuisance, but it's
more thorough than a lot of things.
