I remember the party Meri speaks of. In fact that party would be hard to forget. It was pretty apocalyptic.
AWA had a serious problem in 2006 with hotel guests leaving their rooms in absolutely appalling conditions. The next year the convention worked with the management to institute some new policies, including a cleaning deposit, that resulted in a happier hotel. AWA also introduced an alcohol policy that weeded out the less discreet of our attendees, and resulted in far fewer shenanigans than in previous years.

held privately by some fans in a suite. In fact other hotels have
specifically cited it as a reason for why they did not want "our kind"
of business. That party was at least 9 years ago and we're still hearing
about it. (hotels check with each other). Even though it was not an
official con event, not run by our staff, or officially advertised by us
(I'm sure individuals talked it up), it was felt that 'if the con wasn't
there, then the party wouldn't have happened'.
