Hello,

Certainly bandwidth was a factor in limiting signature size.  But
ettiquette was and is the main reason.  The same way it's not nice to
let people wade through 100's of lines of quoted text, it's also not
nice to let people read 10+ sig lines to figure out who you are.  Even
for those of us who have multiple affiliations, it's really only
necessary to put down the most significant ones. Or at least the ones
that you want to be associated with. ^_-
